Why Am I Here?

20 years in a CPA firm.
Years in an organization focused on serving ministries.
Now I’m privileged to serve as CFO and Director of Global Services with TEAM.
This year marks 30 years in my career. At times it’s hard to believe it, but when I consider the amazing opportunities I’ve had, sometimes I’m surprised it’s only 30 years.
I spent 20 of those years in a national CPA firm serving churches and Christian ministries. When I left, we served approximately 1,200 organizations. From there, I went to an organization focused on ensuring the financial, governance, and fundraising standards of ministries—an organization with over 2,000 member ministries, many of which the CPA firm had also served.
My entire career has been supporting ministry from behind the scenes and encouraging others who do as well.
In December 2019, I was presented with the opportunity to come alongside TEAM in an interim capacity to help simplify processes and guide transitions in the Finance department. I began serving in February 2020 and never left.
The “interim” eventually dropped from the Interim CFO title, and the Executive Director of Global Services title was added as well.
I have the privilege of serving some amazing organizations and sitting on boards of global-impacting ministries.

So why TEAM, and why now?
Back in 1996, when I began my career serving mission-sending organizations, they were dying. Ministry models were shifting as fewer people were willing to commit their entire lives to serving somewhere else in the world. As fewer global workers went out for long-term service, the donor base aged alongside them.
Fast-forward to 2019-2020 and not much had changed. Only a small number of organizations had made the necessary shifts. But the vision cast to me about TEAM was compelling and counter to those barriers.
In a nutshell, we will continue to engage North Americans and North American churches and play a role in calling people to take the Gospel to others. However, we won’t limit ourselves to only sending North Americans, nor will we focus solely on those who view this as a lifelong calling.
People have asked me what I’m excited about in the world where I serve. Here are my three answers recently and how they directly relate to TEAM:
1. The Global Church is ready to go.
While there are some places in North America where the church is thriving, in many others, it’s dwindling, closing, or merging. Meanwhile, the global church is growing—and eager to share the love of Christ beyond their own cities and countries. TEAM’s impact is that we’re engaging in these movements and building partnerships to send people where we know the needs are great, embedding them in evangelism and discipleship ministries.
2. There is wealth available.
The capacity for generosity today is staggering. Over $250 billion sits in donor-advised funds, and more than $1.48 trillion exists in private foundations. Individually, Americans give just under 2% of their disposable income to charity, and Canadians roughly half that. The TEAM impact: there are resources available. God has more than enough to fund the work of bringing the Gospel to those who haven’t heard it—and donors get to be part of that incredible adventure.
3. Gen Z and Alpha are amazing.
These generations are ready to make a difference. They want to learn, serve, and be part of meaningful change. TEAM’s impact is a new generation of workers—eager, engaged, and willing to do what it takes to care for, love, and evangelize those without access to the Gospel. We just need to equip them.
That is why I’m here. TEAM is positioned to make the shifts needed to take the good news of Jesus to Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth. I’m not interested in supporting an organization on life support—I’m energized about being part of one with this kind of calling and these kinds of opportunities.
God has given me the background and skills to be a part of TEAM right at this pivotal moment. He has gifted you with unique skills and experience as well. How will you join us as we take the good news of Jesus to the world?
